AFTB Content Blocks Promotion

In an attempt to generate interest in Army Family Team Building courses, we created a game of collecting content block cards. Each icon in the Army Family Tree represented a different block of training and participants would collect cards from each session. Once a milestone was reached, the participant received recognition for having completed the required content blocks. AFTB reported positive response to the campaign, which meant more members of the Fort Hood family received much-needed training and information about Army life. The content blocks program was then presented at the national level as a way to make training easily accessible to busy Army spouses and other eligible participants.

AFAP Survey Campaign

Army Family Action Plan is a program funded by the Department of the United States Army with the intent of implementing cost-saving and quality of life-enhancing ideas. Every year, each Army installation encourages residents to submit useful and relevant ideas to improve Army life in and around their communities. In 2011, I created a series of coordinated posters and flyers, each with a specific target audience and execution. One design was created for high-traffic facilities with no wait-time, while another was created specifically for waiting rooms. And one design was easily translated for online use. The design package gave the program the flexibility to advertise in a variety of locations, to different demographics while having a cohesive message. The biggest challenge of the project was to convey the purpose of AFAP quickly and effectively in order to generate response. For the 2011 survey season, AFAP notes a significant increase in participation.

Heart My City

With a 2-hour turn-around time, this Internet startup needed a landing page fast. Using stock images, I recreated Honolulu skyline for the Heart My City presentation at Startup Weekend Honolulu 2011. The logo I created is simple, smart and easily customizable for the range of social media applications, using negative space to make a lasting impression.

Guahan Junior Golf Association

The creation of a new organization requires identity management from the earliest stages of operation. Once the name of the association was decided upon, and the mission statement published, I was able to refine logo creation to reflect directives as prescribed in organizational bylaws. The logo presents a silhouette of a youth golfer. As the child swings his or her club, you see the positive shape of the golf ball coming toward you. The negative shape between the golf ball features and the golfer creates the outline of the island of Guam. To finish the logo, the entire graphic is encircled with the official name of the organization.

For the website, I went with a modern look with a large photographic background. I was tempted to go with a more animated and colorful design, considering the group is for younger golfers. However, after reviewing other youth golf organizations, I realized that these clients were mature and sophisticated enough to appreciate this representation on the Internet. Parents are also involved in this organization, as are sponsors from different business sectors. To save on costs for the organization, I customized a CMS template skeleton, which will also allow for future growth of the web site into an online community for youth golfers on Guam. The large photograph background will randomly feature images from group events, while keeping the information organized and centrally-located on the web pages.

Guam Travel Poster

Illustration for a friend’s housewarming, inspired by vintage travel posters. If you look closely, you’ll see a familiar logo on the aircraft tail.

PCS Card

According to statistics provided by RAND, at least one-third of Army families will experience a Permanent Change of Station each year. That’s over 500 active duty families moving each day throughout the world. A career military family may move 5 to 9 times over the course of 20 years. Me? I’ve moved a total of 8 times over the last 8 years. With such a frequently occurring event, it only seemed natural to create a greeting card to celebrate! This particular card can be customized for the recipient, including previous duty stations and even a tattoo.

Coming soon: retirement and promotion greeting cards.

Vector Portraits

Last Christmas, we sent out a newsletter, filling in family and friends of our many adventures during 2009. We had quite an eventful year. To add a little personality to it, I made vector images of my husband and I, positioned at the end of the letter, near our signatures.

I now create vector self portraits for other couples and families. Check out my etsy store for more info!

Okkodo High School Golf Team Logo

This logo was created for a new secondary school on Guam, Okkodo High School. Their inaugural golf team was gaining in experience and recognition. They felt they were ready to order uniforms, but needed a team logo. By combining a variation of the school mascot with a crest of golf clubs, I sought to recognize the modest backgrounds of the players and their determination. These students overcome much adversity to achieve their dreams.

The logo was embroidered on blue and white polo shirts.
