The Grand Re-Opening of the Fort Rucker Main Exchange was a major project that was several months in the making. The Visual Merchandising Team was in charge of printed publications, on-line advertising, marketing, community relations, and event planning. Visual Merchandising products were created with themes in mind, to give the entire event a sophisticated air through cohesiveness in design. Print products coordinated with decorations. Fliers mirrored on-line designs. The execution was seamless and harmonious, ensuring the customers enjoyed the experience. Featured here are the two main posters, along with matching window cling decals for the front entrance of the Main Exchange mall. Side doors displayed coordinated window cling decals.

Fort Rucker AAFES Main Exchange Grand Re-Opening
Fort Rucker AAFES Mascot Design
The Fort Rucker AAFES Main Exchange often features local barbecue cooks. Boston butts, smoked ribs, and rotisserie whole chickens are favorites among shoppers. I created this vector design of a grill master based on a barbecuing friend from Guam. It was my first digital illustration. Grill Guy is still being used as part of vendor promotions at the Fort Rucker AAFES facilities.
Fort Rucker AAFES Hispanic Heritage Month
Hispanic Heritage Month was one of the first big events planned while I was at AAFES. Planning started with design of Visual Merchandising products, such as banners, posters, and fliers, and layout of activity spaces. Next, organizations and vendors were contacted for participation. Several non-profit groups performed for the facility customers throughout an entire weekend of scheduled events. Press releases were issued to ensure coverage by local media outlets. Overall, the event was well-received by customers and laid the foundations for a successful Grand Re-Opening Event a couple months later.
Fort Rucker AAFES Football Product Display
Taking the opportunity to get creative with this cross-merchandising project, the Fort Rucker AAFES Visual Merchandising Team created a display that featured football season products from every department and vendor in the store. Custom graphics were created to enhance the look of the demo. This project was also a community outreach event. The local youth football league was invited to enjoy the display and free meals from the Fort Rucker AAFES Food Court.
Fort Rucker AAFES Fishing Display
As an effort to highlight local fishing events, Fort Rucker AAFES put together this 360-degree statement display at the entrance of the Outdoor Recreations department. Within minutes of completion, customers were shopping the display and entering the featured sweepstakes. The entire Visual Merchandising team worked to make this display a success and had a lot of fun while working on it.
Fort Rucker AAFES Heritage Wall
One of my first major assignments at AAFES, this Heritage Wall was requested in order to make use of unsightly, under-utilized wall space in the Fort Rucker Class Six. Previous to this mural, the wall was littered with vendor fliers, makeshift advertisements, and deteriorating, out-dated posters. The Heritage Wall gave the customers of the facility a point of interest while shopping, bringing attention to the unique product of beer on tap. The mural also gave the facility a bit more depth, by highlighting the area’s military history.
