AFSA Website

While serving in the United States Air Force, I participated in the Air Force Sergeants’ Association Chapter 1328, Edwards AFB, California. I contributed to the organization in a voluntary capacity as web designer. Originally, they had a simple, informative website updated through Microsoft Front Page. The website was hosted with a company that claimed ownership of the original AFSA 1328 domain name. We registered a new domain and moved the website to a server that could support a content management system for the growing chapter. I implemented the JavaScript expandable menu, to keep the menu neat and clean, and set the organization up for fully integrated content management, including dynamically updated newsletters and e-mail announcements.

Orange Crushers Website

Informative and interactive website for a local youth soccer group. The color scheme is based on the logo and team name. CSS was used for the navigation bar and to control the content elements. PDF files were made available for download, such as membership application and activity pages for kids.

Renaissance Band Website

The Renaissance Band Site was a major undertaking. The project started with instruction and tutorials for band members on setting up their web server and domain. Next, content management systems were installed on the server, as well as aggregation for dynamic information, such as an event calendar and random photos from the PHP picture gallery installed on the server. All graphics were inspired by the band name. Performance shots were done by myself and other fans of the band to keep the feel of the website personal. The site also included bios and a guestbook for fans.

Cascading Style Sheets were used to control the different looks of the separate sections of the page, while a content management system back-end handled all entries made by band members. Server Side Includes were also used for sidebar snippets of information. Simple PHP e-mail scripts were used to allow readers to contact the band directly from the website.

Where We Live Website

The final version of the Where We Live website featured a fully-functional forum board for listeners and readers, streaming audio broadcasts of the radio talk shows as well as transcripts, question and answer sections, and contents. Most of the content was dynamic, such as current weather and time, as well as upcoming events. The content management system installed allowed the talk show hosts to add news and updates to the site without having to deal with the design. They could just log in, type an entry, and publish it without my help. I also instructed the main host, Julie Duwel, on web maintenance basics, such as DNS numbers, FTP, and setting up client-side e-mail on her server. The final design relied heavily on CSS to keep the content and design separate and organized.

Lorie’s Lounge Website

One of my favorite web sites to work on was the Lorie’s Lounge site. It allowed me to really stretch my creative muscles and incorporate a lot of fun content, such as streaming music and personal messages. The web site was for a local country bar, so it had to be fun!

There were many version of the lorieslounge.com, but the most recent version was one I made for browser compatibility. Pictured here are the flash version and the version made for all browsers, including WebTV. It also included an HTML picture gallery.
